[Google Apps] How to disable Gmail spam filter settings

I inquired with support about whether Gmail’s spam filter in Google Apps could be configured in detail for each user, and received a detailed response that I’d like to share.

Google Apps Gmail service has three types of spam filters:

  1. Filters built into Gmail in advance
  2. Spam filters configured from the admin console for your entire domain and by organization
  3. Spam filters individually configured by users from the Gmail web UI

2. Spam filters configured from the admin console for your entire domain and by organization

For the spam filter in #2, if you don’t want emails from specific senders to be classified as spam, you can add that sender’s IP address to the email whitelist so that emails from that sender won’t go through the filter. Also, for emails from all senders, you can effectively disable the spam filter by adding “0.0.0.0/0”. For how to add IPs to the whitelist, please refer to the following help article:

3. Spam filters individually configured by users from the Gmail web UI

For filter #3, you can check whether the user has configured filters to classify emails as spam in the Gmail web UI, and by deleting the relevant filters from the Gmail web UI, you can prevent them from being classified as spam. For filters in the Gmail web UI, please refer to the following help article:

1. Filters built into Gmail in advance

Filter #1 is a filter that applies to all emails including Gmail, and unfortunately cannot be completely disabled. This filter determines whether an email is spam based on authentication presence, attachment presence and type, presence of links in the body and their destinations, etc. However, if there are emails that are still processed as spam even after disabling filters #2 and #3 above, please individually click the [Not spam] button to train the Gmail system. Additionally, we have a help article that describes the reasons why emails are processed as spam and countermeasures.

They provided a detailed response to my question “Can spam filters be disabled individually for users?”

That’s all from the Gemba.
