I Was Thinking 'There's an UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY Error!' When I Received an Email Titled '[Sakura VPS] Report on Failure'
When I tried to open websites from the browser, no response came back…
Even when I tried to ssh to the server, it wouldn’t connect…
I had no choice but to check via VNC console from Sakura VPS management screen, where I could confirm that there was an “UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY” error.
This was my first time seeing this error, so while I was thinking “Now, how should I recover from this?” and searching on Google, an email arrived from Sakura Internet.

Hardware replacement was completed around 18:30, but it was discovered that your contracted Sakura VPS service would not start correctly due to data inconsistency.
We can perform recovery from backup data from February 17, 2015 that we maintain.

Reading the email, the response methods are written as “recovery from backup data from February 17, 2015” or “OS reinstallation from Sakura VPS control panel.”
I didn’t want to work hard enough to reinstall the OS from this time, so I decided to have them recover from backup data for now to get the service running.
