How to grant guests permission to modify events in Google Calendar
I’ve been hearing voices within the company about being unable to edit calendar events when invited as a guest to someone else’s event in Google Calendar.
This article introduces two points: “How to set up so guests can also edit events” and “Can guest event editing permissions be enabled by default in Google Apps? (Conclusion: No)”.
To give guests permission to edit Google Calendar events, simply turn ON the [Modify event] checkbox in the edit page following these steps:
You can allow guests to modify events, such as changing times or canceling events. By default, guests cannot modify events.
- Open Google Calendar.
- Open the event details page (click [Edit event] first if needed).
- Turn on the [Guests can modify event] box on the right.
[Guests can modify event] in Japanese is the [modify event] item in English. (See image below)

I looked into whether the default Google Calendar settings could be changed from the Google Apps admin console, but it seems this is currently not possible.
Question: I want to enable “Guests can modify event” by default for Google Calendar within Apps organization
Answer: We understand that you would like to enable “Guests can modify” guest permissions by default when creating events.
We are very sorry, but currently there is no feature implemented to enable this functionality by default from the admin console. Regarding the feature you inquired about, we have requests from other customers as well, so I would like to submit a feature improvement request on your behalf.
We hope for future feature improvements.
That’s all from the Gemba.
