Even for IT companies, phone calls are still the emergency communication method
We’re a foreign IT company with e-commerce as our main business, so we have warehouses in both Japan and America. Sometimes system troubles occur during late night Japan time, but I’m sleeping and can’t respond.
Especially since I set my iPhone to “Do Not Disturb” mode when sleeping, the main reason is that I can’t notice notifications.
If I can’t notice notifications, I can’t respond, so a request came up to “share some engineers’ phone numbers within the company.”
Despite various communication apps being released nowadays, the emergency communication method is still phone calls.
When iPhone’s “Do Not Disturb” mode is set, it seems you can configure it to receive notifications only for default app “call notifications” and “message notifications.”
Regarding call notification settings, since I haven’t registered other company members’ phone numbers, for such people, I recommend changing the [Allow Calls From] setting to [Everyone].
I haven’t used message notification settings yet, but it might be good to master things like receiving specific Slack notifications via SMS.
I’d be happy if Apple added a setting feature to the iPhone that allows notifications from only specific apps even when in “Do Not Disturb” mode.
That’s all from the Gemba.
