I was interviewed because I “practice the Pomodoro Technique”, so I reflected on my encounter with the Pomodoro Technique.

Encounter with the "Pomodoro Technique"

I probably learned about the term “Pomodoro Technique” during my graduate school days or when I first started working. I knew the word from daily web surfing on lifehacker.jp and GIGAZINE, but I was avoiding trying it.

Some time later, the Pomodoro Technique was introduced on the famous engineering podcast Rebuild: 139: Productivity Extremist (higepon), which sparked some interest. But I still didn’t feel the need for it at that time.

Later, in the Rebuild: 156: Holes In The Socks (higepon) episode, the excellent book “SOFT SKILLS Software Developer’s Life Manual” was introduced, and this book also recommended the Pomodoro Technique. That’s when I finally decided to practice it.

The article I wrote about that time is “Practicing Pomodoro Technique with Toggl App”.

About a year later, I wanted to talk about the Pomodoro Technique on a Tech Podcast we were launching at the company. Before that, I reflected on the year I spent with the Pomodoro Technique in the article “About a Year of Practicing Pomodoro Technique with Toggl”.

The podcast where I touched on this story is “otakumode Tech Podcast ep.1 Leadership, Pomodoro, Remote Work | Tokyo Otaku Mode Blog”. And this podcast led to the interview request for Taking Breaks Isn’t “Being Soft”? Time Management Techniques to Improve Engineer Productivity | SELECK.

Aside) Pomodoro Technique Information

I love the Pomodoro Technique and Trello stories by @kakakakakku, who appeared on both of my favorite podcasts omoiyari.fm and engineer meeting podcast. Their consciousness level is so high it’s amazing.

That’s all from the Gemba where I want to use the Pomodoro Technique to explosively boost productivity.
