I purchased the ‘Apple USB-C - 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter MU7E2FE/A’ to use wired earphones with my MacBook Pro (2018).

I mainly use Bluetooth earphones, but I purchased this adapter so I can also use wired earphones as a backup when the battery runs out.
