Books I Read to Gain 'Finance' Knowledge as an Engineer Turned Business Owner

I’ll introduce the books I read to gain finance knowledge after becoming a business owner as an engineer.

ファイナンス | エンジニア経営者

Background: Almost no finance knowledge

I co-founded a startup company in March 2020.

Although I’m not the main person responsible for fundraising and other finance matters, I read several books to acquire minimum finance knowledge as a business owner.

Prerequisite: Read 「起業のファイナンス」 ("Startup Finance") long ago

I had read 「起業のファイナンス」 (“Startup Finance”) during my first year as a working professional, but that was about the extent of my finance education.

Books I Read to Gain Finance Knowledge

ファイナンス思考――日本企業を蝕む病と、再生の戦略論 (Finance Thinking: The Disease Plaguing Japanese Companies and Strategic Theory for Revival)

I feel that business professionals who read 「ファイナンス思考――日本企業を蝕む病と、再生の戦略論」 (“Finance Thinking: The Disease Plaguing Japanese Companies and Strategic Theory for Revival”) and understand what finance thinking is can get one step ahead, not just business owners.

起業のファイナンス (Startup Finance)

I re-read 「起業のファイナンス」 (“Startup Finance”).

起業のエクイティ・ファイナンス (Startup Equity Finance)

After the yellow book, comes the red book, so I also read 「起業のエクイティ・ファイナンス---経済革命のための株式と契約」 (“Startup Equity Finance: Stocks and Contracts for Economic Revolution”).

That’s all from the Gemba, where an engineer who became a business owner is also studying finance.
