Slack and Synchronous/Asynchronous Communication

When using Slack, synchronous/asynchronous communication is a topic that will inevitably come up for discussion at least once. Let me introduce this topic.

Conclusion: It Depends on the Rules Within the Organization or Team Using Slack

To state my conclusion upfront, I think it depends on the rules within the Workspace that uses Slack.

I believe it’s inappropriate to demand synchronous/asynchronous communication for Slack responses when no rules have been established.

Background: How Quickly Should You Respond to Slack?

The topics “Should you respond to Slack immediately?” and “How many minutes or hours should you respond to Slack within?” come up in every company and organization, so I decided to write an article about it.

Responses/Reactions Are Possible Within 30 Minutes

My personal stance is: “Responses/reactions to Slack are possible within 30 minutes.”

Since I practice the Pomodoro Technique, working for 25 minutes and taking a 5-minute break, I can check Slack, respond, and react at 30-minute intervals.

That’s all from the Gemba, where we want to establish a common understanding of how much asynchronous communication to expect when using chat tools like Slack.
