I’d like to introduce the research I conducted on the EC site creation service Wix eCommerce.

Background: Consulted About Using Wix eCommerce

An acquaintance consulted me about using Wix eCommerce, and I responded that I would personally use other EC platforms. As a byproduct, I’ll share the research results in this article.

Overview of Wix eCommerce

Wix eCommerce is part of Wix.com, a cloud-based web development platform that allows you to create HTML5 websites and mobile sites using online drag-and-drop tools.

Wix eCommerce provides a wide range of features including:

  1. Product Catalog: Users can upload their entire product catalog, set categories, and manage inventory all from one place.
  2. Shopping Cart: Wix eCommerce supports various payment methods for customers and includes a secure checkout process.
  3. Payment Gateways: Wix eCommerce integrates with multiple payment gateways including PayPal and Stripe, allowing business owners to receive payments from around the world.
  4. Shipping and Taxes: Wix eCommerce allows sellers to set and calculate product shipping and taxes based on customer location.
  5. Marketing Tools: Wix eCommerce provides many marketing tools to help promote products, including SEO tools, email marketing, and social media integration.

Prerequisites for Using Wix eCommerce

  • Available from Business Plan ¥1,800/month
  • There is no free plan

Advantages of Wix eCommerce

Wix eCommerce provides powerful and easy-to-use tools for launching and running an online business. Here are some of its main advantages:

  1. Easy to Use: Wix's drag-and-drop website builder allows users with little to no technical skills to easily create websites.
  2. Customizability: Wix templates are fully customizable, allowing you to adjust the design to match your business brand and image.
  3. Marketing Tools: Wix eCommerce provides various tools for promoting your online store, including SEO tools, email marketing, and social media integration.
  4. High-Level Security: Wix security has high standards, so you can use it with confidence.

Disadvantages of Wix eCommerce

While Wix eCommerce offers many convenient features, like other EC platforms, there are some limitations and drawbacks. Here are the main disadvantages. It’s important to consider these disadvantages before choosing Wix eCommerce.

  1. Limited Portability: Wix websites are strongly tied to the Wix platform, making migration to other platforms difficult. Once you create a website with Wix, moving it to another platform can be cumbersome or sometimes impossible.
  2. Sales Fees: On some plans, Wix may take a portion of sales as fees. This can be particularly problematic for businesses with low profit margins.
  3. Template Limitations: While Wix offers many beautiful templates, once you select a template, you cannot change it later. If you want to switch to a new template, you need to rebuild the site from scratch.
  4. Performance Issues: Lighthouse Performance scores are around 25-50

Conclusion: I Don't Recommend Using Wix eCommerce

After researching Wix eCommerce, I personally wouldn’t use it.

For Small-Scale EC: BASE or STORES

For small-scale EC, I personally recommend starting for free with either BASE or STORES.

For Medium to Large-Scale EC: Shopify

For medium to large-scale EC, I believe Shopify is the only choice.
