I Became an Individual Sponsor for the Ruby Programming Contest for Junior High and High School Students 2025
I’m pleased to announce that I’ve decided to support the “中高生Rubyプログラミングコンテスト” (Ruby Programming Contest for Junior High and High School Students) to be held in 2025 as an 個人協賛(ルビコンサポーターズ) (individual sponsor - Rubicon Supporters).
As a software engineer, I’ve spent much of my career working with Ruby. I’ve been helped countless times by Ruby’s philosophy of “fun,” its highly productive development experience, and above all, its warm and vibrant community.
I’ve always been thinking about what I could do to give back to the Ruby community and to invest in the younger generation who are about to dive into the world of technology.
The “Ruby Programming Contest for Junior High and High School Students” was the perfect opportunity to put those thoughts into action. For junior high and high school students at such a formative age, experiencing the joy of creating through programming and the sense of achievement from solving problems should have immeasurable value for their future.
I’m already very excited to imagine that future wonderful Rubyists will emerge from this contest, where Yukihiro Matsumoto, the creator of Ruby, serves as the chief judge for the final examination.
This contest has a system where individuals, not just companies, can sponsor as “Rubicon Supporters.”
When you hear “contribution to the community,” it may feel a bit daunting, but I think it’s wonderful that there’s a mechanism allowing individuals to easily support in this way. I hope this can help spread awareness about this activity, even if just a little.
If there are any engineers who read this article and feel inspired, I invite you to join in supporting future talent.
To the junior high and high school students participating in the contest, I’m looking forward to the unique works born from your flexible ideas! Programming is a magical tool that allows you to bring your ideas to life. Please enjoy this contest to the fullest and have the best experience.
I also want to express my sincere gratitude to all the organizers running this wonderful contest.
That’s all from the Gemba!
