My YAPC::Tokyo 2026 Proposal Was Not Accepted
The selection results arrived for the proposal I submitted to YAPC::Tokyo 2026. First came an acceptance notice, and then an email apologizing for that message and informing me that the proposal was not accepted.
Here is the proposal I submitted:
Perl でプラットフォームをつなげる Write Once, Compile Everywhere (“Connecting Platforms with Perl: Write Once, Compile Everywhere”)
Below are both emails, translated from Japanese with the content kept as close to the originals as possible. My name and the organizer’s name are masked.
Email 1: Acceptance Notice
The subject line was ”[●●] YAPC::Tokyo 2026 Proposal Acceptance Notice.”
Thank you for your continued support. This is the YAPC::Tokyo 2026 organizing committee.
Thank you very much for submitting to the YAPC::Tokyo 2026 call for proposals.
As a result of the selection by the organizing committee, we would like to accept the following proposal from ●●. If you have no objection, please confirm whether you can give the talk via the URL below.

Yes!
Email 2: Apology for the Mistake and Rejection Notice
Next came an email with the subject “[YAPC::Tokyo 2026] Notice Regarding the Results of Proposal Selection.”
Thank you for your continued support. This is ●● (@●●●●) of the YAPC::Tokyo 2026 organizing committee.
Thank you very much for submitting to the YAPC::Tokyo 2026 call for proposals. We apologize for the email with incorrect content that we sent a moment ago. We are truly sorry.
We apologize for the delay beyond our planned schedule, and would like to inform you once again of the selection results.
As a result of the organizing committee’s selection, we regret to inform you that the following proposal you submitted was not accepted.

We are sorry we could not meet your hopes, and we kindly ask for your understanding.
This time, we received a record-high 241 submissions for 50 slots, roughly a 5-to-1 ratio, which made for a very difficult selection.
We tried adjusting the timetable, among other things, but taking various circumstances into account, accepting any more was not realistic, and as a result we had no choice but to decline most proposals, including ●●‘s. This was a very painful decision for the organizing committee as well.
This outcome reflects the committee’s consideration of many factors, such as the balance and direction of the event as a whole, and we hope you understand that it is by no means a judgment of merit.
Once again, the entire organizing committee is deeply grateful not only for ●●‘s submission, but for the many wonderful submissions we received.
We hope you will join YAPC::Tokyo 2026 as an attendee and enjoy the event.

Too bad…!
With 241 submissions for 50 slots, roughly 1 in 5 proposals made it. My proposal to YAPC::Fukuoka 2025 was not accepted either, so speaking at YAPC will have to wait for another time.
Attending in Person
But I’m going to be there in person!!
This isn’t a decision I made after getting the results. I had already bought an individual sponsor ticket on 2026-07-21, the day tickets went on sale.
YAPC::Tokyo 2026 takes place at Tokyo Big Sight, with the pre-conference party on Friday, 2026-11-27, Day 1 and the social gathering on Saturday, 2026-11-28, and Day 2 on Sunday, 2026-11-29. Tickets are on sale at the fortee ticket shop.
That’s all from someone whose YAPC::Tokyo 2026 proposal was turned down but who is still heading there on a launch-day individual sponsor ticket, from the Gemba.
